What is Kojic acid
Kojic Acid is a by-product in the
fermentation process of malting rice for use in the manufacturing of sake, the
Japanese rice wine.
There is convincing research —both
in vitro
(in a test tube) and in vivo (on a
live subject) showing kojic acid to be effective for inhibiting melanin
production (Source: Archives of Pharmacal Research, August 2001, pages
307-311).
Discovered in 1989, Kojic acid has a similar effect as hydroquinone. Studies
have shown that Kojic acid is very effective as a skin lightening agent,
inhibiting production of melanin brown pigment. Kojic acid, is highly effective
in reducing the pigment in melasma patients.
●
Why does it contain AHAs ?
Glycolic acid, Lactic acid,
Citric acid
Combination of these three acids with Kojic acid helps improves
pigmentation.
Exfoliation of the skin induced by AHAs helps increase the effects of Kojic
acid.
●
Cream or Gel ?
Both the skin lightening cream
and gel are suitable to use on Hyperpigmentation on the hands and the rest
of the body.
The Kojiol Gel is stronger
than the cream and used for focal application. While the Kojicol Cream can
be applied to the entire face and contains an SPF 20. Sun protection is
mandatory to use in conjuction with hyperpigmentation treatments.

ingredients
Kojic acid
A complete action formula helps
diminish hyperpigmentation in three different ways
1. Kojic acid blocks conversion of
tyrosine to dopa
2. Inhibiting melanin production
3. Copper chelator and
anti-microbial action
Glycolic acid, Lactic acid, Citric
acid
Combination of these three acids
with Kojic acid helps improves pigmentation.
Thinning of the corneous layer
induced by AHAs helps increase the effects of Kojic acid.
Alpha-arbutine
Vegetable derivative of
hydroquinone, 10 times more powerful than L-arbutine. Inhibits melanin
production.
Licorice extract
Studies made in vitro demonstrate
Glabridine (extract of Licorice) has the capacity to inhibit 50% of the activity
of the Tyrosinase enzyme without damaging cells. It has anti-inflammatory
properties and helps prevent sensitivity.
Due to its anti-oxidant properties
helps avoid pigmentation caused by UV radiation.
Emblica Fruit
Reduces oxidative stress caused by
hyperpigmentation. Chelator of iron, inhibits
metalo-protease of the matrix,
recovering the extra-cellular matrix.
White Mulberry extract
Natural pigmentation reducer that
can inhibit tyrosinase and melanin formation in melanocytes. Studies show that
0.03% is a suitable dose to obtain desired effects.
Phytic acid
Chelator of copper and iron,
inhibits tyrosinase, non irratant
Thiotic acid
An powerful anti-oxidant captures
heavy metals.
Vitamin A
Renovation properties
Vitamin E
Anti-oxidant
Vitamin C
Anti-oxidant inhibits tyrosinase
Boswellic acid
Resin extracts from boswellia
serrata fight irritations and have decongestive, calming, and anti-flogistic
effects.
Vegetal heteropolysaccharides
Forms a moisturizing and
protective film on the skin. Increases collagen IV
Normal/Dry Skin, Moderate cutaneous
hyperpigmentation (suitable for melasma, chloasma, senile spots, freckles).
Pigmentation caused by pregnancy, birth-control pills, exposition to the sun.
Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentations
Properties
Hyperpigmenation treatment with a cream base and a solar
protection factor (UVA, UVB Filters, and IR SPF 20).
Directions
Clean skin. Apply product on affected area with
gentle massage. In most cases, results can be seen after the first 4 weeks.
Continue application for a minimum of 3 months. Should be applied twice a day,
morning and night. For less sensitive areas such as hands and legs, 3 or 4
applications can be made. Exceptional tolerance and SPF, suitable for daily use.
Focal Treatment for dark cutaneous pigmentations
(suitable for melasma, chloasma, senile spots, freckles) Pigmentations caused by
pregnancy, birth-control pills, cosmetics, medical treatments, exposition to the
sun. Post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentations.
Properties
Oil-free gel. Kojic acid helps correct melanin pigmentation.
Helps Inhibit melanogenesis by blocking tyrosine (impeding tyrosine conversion
to Dopa and its subsequent transformation into Dopaquinona) and the activity of
tautomerasa. AHAs eliminate the skin's superficial layer (cornea mantle),
allowing Kojic acid to penetrate the skin better. Liquorice extract, with
soothing properties, efficiently contributes to the bleaching action of the rest
of the ingredients. Hammamelis extract has an astringent and oil-regulating
action.
Directions
Apply on blemishes twice a day with gentle
massage. A moisturising cream (Acglicolic)
and a solar filter (screenses
80 or sunyses
35) should be applied on top of it. On hands and legs, 3-4
applications can be made. For sensitive skins, apply once a day for 2 weeks and
then increase to twice a day. For very sensitive skins, mix 1-2 drops of Kojicol
with daily moisturising cream (Acglicolic) and apply on the affected area with
the fingertips. This reduces the strength of Kojicol but increases product
tolerance.
Kojicol should be applied for at least 3 months so
that the effect can be completed. Results can be observed during the first 3-4
weeks. Once blemishes are cleared, Kojicol is recommended twice a week.
Contains AHA. For the first 2 weeks of
application, blemishes can be transitorily darkened due to the cleansing action
on the skin. Avoid contact with the eyes, if contact occurs wash immediately
with water. People with darker skins are more sensitive to the application of
Kojicol. In these cases, mix Kojicol with a moisturising cream and a solar
filter and apply mixture to the skin.
For the first 2 weeks of application, blemishes
can be transitorily darkened due to the cleansing action on the skin. Avoid
contact with the eyes, if contact occurs wash immediately with water.
