key ingredients

arrow Lactic acid

Moisturizing action: Part of the NMF (Natural Moisturizing Factor). It moisturizes the skin’s cornea layer and stops water evaporation.

Lactic acid has similar hydrating effects to urea, but also breaks down keratin, a protein that forms part of the skin structure. In conditions like as chronic eczema, excessive amounts of keratin causes the skin cells to harden, and the skin become thickened and scaly. This makes the skin itchy and inflamed. Lactic acid breaks down the keratin, helping to shed skin cells and soften and improve the appearance of dry, scaly skin.

Improves / modulates barrier function: accentuates skin’s natural exfoliation and increases the number of the laminar bodies and their secretion. Stimulates the synthesis of the ceramides in the cornea layer, increasing resistance to Xerosis.

Keratolysis: decreases corneocytic cohesion, facilitating the exfoliation of the skin and accelerating cellular replacement.

Activates cytokines: increases epidermal thickness and dermal glycosaminoglycan quantity, a fact that may be useful to mitigate the side effects of the steroids on the skin. During a study performed on ammonium lactate 12%, it was verified that it prevented epidermal and dermal atrophy, without influencing either on the bioavailability or the anti-inflammatory properties of the steroid. Facilitates transepidermal penetration of other active ingredients.
Antiseptic and depigmenting action (inhibits tyrosinase).
